What is Modal
Modal is a bio-based fiber made by spinning reconstituted cellulose from beech trees. It is about 50% more hygroscopic, or water-absorbent, per unit volume than cotton is. It is designed to dye just like cotton, and is color-fast when washed in warm water. Modal is essentially a variety of rayon.
Modal fabric is very soft, it is cool to the touch and very absorbent. Modal is less resistant to shrinkage than cotton and tends to pill less as a result of friction on the surface. Our modal edition t-shirts are made from a combination of modal and silk which gives the t-shirt even softer touch and great exclusive look.
How to Care for Modal Clothes
Modal is resistant to shrinking or fading, but should be washed at lower temperatures using a gentle cycle, hang to dry preferable and press with steam or low temperature iron. Modal stretches out easily, so you should avoid hanging modal on wire hangers; the shoulders may become misshapen. Use padded hangers, or fold your pieces.
IMPORTANT: As astico modal edition t-shirts are made from blend of modal and silk we recommend not to iron those t-shirts as silk is a very delicate fabric which is incredibly sensitive to heat, so iron only if necessary and at a low temperature, usually most irons would have a special program for silk clothes so we recommend you to use this).
And remember to always read specific care instruction at each individual garment. The label with care instructions is attached to the garment from inside or it’s directly printed on the inside side of t-shirts or shirts.
